Doug Levy

Born and raised in Chicagoland, Doug attributes his musical tastes, as well as pursuing a career in radio, to being a devout XRT listener since he was a kid.

He left Chicago to get his degree in Broadcast Communication at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City. The opening introduction to his weekly radio show at the college radio station, KRUI, included a customized celebrity ID from WXRT's own Frank E. Lee & The Lee-ettes. Towards the end of his time in Iowa, Doug worked the overnight and weekend shifts at 99 Plus, KFMH in the Quad Cities, (a station that modeled itself after WXRT) one of the midwest's great progressive stations.

When he came home to Chicago, Doug spent a few years at WBBM-AM Newsradio 78 as a desk assistant in the news room. The thirst for a musical environment, and a chance to be on air took Doug to WCBR, where he worked weekends. After a few years at WCBR, and simultaneously working in advertising sales to pay the bills, Doug severed all personal and professional ties and set out to explore South America. He spent nearly a year backpacking through Venezuela, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, before the money ran out and the itch to be back on the air saw him trade the Amazon Jungle for the Concrete Jungle.

In July of 1995, Doug joined WXRT. "Working at WXRT has been my dream for as long as I can remember. I feel so lucky to have the chance to live that dream. It's actually more fun than I had even hoped it would be. Somebody pinch me!"

Doug can be heard Sunday mornings on XRT from 5:30 to 8:00AM.
