Sales Internship

The Internship Program for WXRT's Sales Department is a non-salaried position which is designed to give the student and part time volunteers hands-on experience with various sales aspects of a major market radio station. The position is available to students who are able to work 10-15 hours per week for twelve weeks.

The intern is trained and supervised by the Local Sales Manager. Duties include market research, copywriting and assisting the sales staff with projects.

Interns must be resourceful and willing to initiate projects. Good communication skills and attention to detail are important. Specific duties include, but are not restricted to, the following:

Newspaper/Magazine and Periodical Leads:
Sales Mailing:
Contest Entries:
Printing of Promotional Materials:
General Filing:
Sales Event Marketing Promotions:
Vendor/Co-op and Developmental Marketing Programs:
Providing sales people with information on sales leads found in those publications.
Helping to monitor sales list of clients and making changes needed to keep accurate- also helping in the mailing of these materials.
Sorting and processing all mail and other materials used during any type of mail-in promotion for the sales department. This also includes responding to winners as well as non-winners.
Maintaining sufficient quantities of promotional materials for sales staff—includes delivering originals as well as picking up proofs for approval and finished materials as necessary.
This consists of keeping the sales files well maintained and updated to allow easy access as well as easy understanding of the materials processed by the sales department.

The sales interns will be asked to attend various events, festivals, etc. Duties will vary, but can include participating in the planning and execution of the event, assisting station clients on-site at event, etc.

Sales interns will assist in developing and implementing various creative sales promotions and marketing programs for vendors seeking retail partners. Sales interns will also help qualify valid vendor leads for these programs. In addition, sales interns will learn the mechanics of creating vendor programs and how to utilize co-op dollars for radio.
