Programming Internship

The Internship Program for WXRT's Programming Department is a non-salaried position designed to give the college student a hands-on understanding of the musical workings and programming philosophies of a commercial radio station in a major market. Interns must to be enrolled in college and receiving college credit for their internship. Interns must be able to donate a minimum of 12 hours a week (Days/Monday-Friday) for approximately 3 months.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

The maintenance of XRT's extensive music library and tape archives.
Monitoring of other major market stations and the weekly trade publications, answering music questions from listeners.
Maintaining and updating biographical files, research and organization of our daily programming and weekly features.
A programming intern must have an extensive knowledge of music. Students should have a good attention for detail, the ability to follow directions, the ability to complete tasks, work independently, initiate projects and follow through to ensure they are completed. Computer skills and html skills a plus.

Interns are hired and supervised by the Programming Assistant. New interns will be trained by the outgoing interns and assisted by various music department personnel.

The objectives of programming internship are to understand, appreciate, and participate in the day-to-day functions of a major market radio station's programming department.
