The Vinyl Frontier

Vinyl Frontier with Frank E. Lee at 4 PM Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
When you hear music, you're picking up good vibrations...literally. A string is plucked, a membrane is struck, a reed flutters and the little eardrum in your head quivers in sympathy (or horror, if it's Pat Boone or Ethel Merman.) Can this process be reduced to binary code and still be true to the ancient path of sonic delivery? Ask professional musicians or anyone in the music industry (other than someone wearing a suit) and the answer will be a resounding no! That is why vinyl recordings, with their attendant artwork. gatefolds and extensive liner notes, continue to be a significant resource for music reproduction and indeed, are experiencing a revival even in today's computerized world. That is why, every Monday and Wednesday afternoon at four, we fire up the state of the art Technics turntable, blow the dust off the needle, apply just the right amount of Gruv-Glide and drop the tone arm on a fabulous track from the pre-cd era. The occasional pop or brief hiss of surface noise will only make you wax nostalgic. |
